In 1780 King Louis XVI of France declared platinum as the metal of kings. Prized for its purity, rarity and
strength, platinum became the metal of choice for kings, queens, tsars and maharajas across Europe,
Russia and Asia.

Today, platinum remains the most noble metal on earth. Precious metals represent a fraction of a millionth of the earth’s crust, and platinum is the rarest among them.

One of the strongest and most enduring of metals, it is also one of the heaviest. It is about 60% heavier than gold. This gives a platinum ring it’s distinctive solid feel, a weight and strength that can not be achieved with other metals.

While all precious metals must be alloyed to make them suitable for jewelry, platinum is the most pure.
Platinum jewelry contains between 85% to 95% pure platinum. The more platinum it contains, the more
valuable it is. PlatinumOvernight.com uses only .95 pure platinum.

How to assure the purity of your platinum ring:

Platinum's purity is measured in parts per 1,000. The inner band of a platinum ring is stamped, or hallmarked, with the metal purity according to strict industry standards.

.95 pure platinum will be hallmarked as "PLAT", “950 Plat", or “950 Pt." inside the band. Some manufacturers will also include the alloy content and material in the hallmark, which is good information
to have. These marks would be “50 Ir." for Iridium, “50 Ru." for Ruthenium, or “50 Co." for Cobalt.

PlatinumOvernight.com rings bear the hallmark “PLAT", which indicates 95% platinum alloyed with either Ruthenium or Cobalt, depending on the manufacturing process used. There are two types of manufacturing processes; "milling" and "lost wax casting". Our traditional platinum bands are manufactured using the "milling" process, while our Diamond Bands, Designer Woven, Designer Sleek and Designer Carved Styles are manufactured using the "lost wax casting" process. .90 platinum will be hallmarked as “IridPlat", “900 Plat", or “900 Pt." inside the band. Usually .90 platinum is alloyed with Iridium, so you may see a mark such as “900 Pt./Ir." or “900 Pt./10 Ir."

.85 platinum will be hallmarked as “850 Plat", or “850 Pt." inside the band, and may be marked with
the alloy content as well. Because it is only 85% pure, .85 Platinum will be noticeably lighter in weight.
